Orange. I believe '77 or later was the corporate blue.

My stock engine, vin 29750 April 8 production, was orange.

My 76 L48 (whats left of the original paint) is orange.

Looks a little better now after some serious cleaning. Kind of looks mostly rust colored but it really is orange...

The corvette black book states the following for model year 1977:

"Between August 23 and September 7 1976, Flint Engine changed from Orange paint to blue for Corvette Engines. Thus, early 1977 models had orange engines, and later models had blue."

It states nothing about 1976 engine color, so one would assume that all 76 engines were orange. It does state however, that some 77 parts did sneak into late models 76 cars, mostly interior stuff. But you could probably extrapolate that remark to include a blue engine. The last build number for 76 was 46558, I would say would would have to be in the 46xxx range for this to have happened.

hope this helps.

Orange - the change to corporate blue was mid-year 77.

Mine was built Sept. 2, 1976.
