Default removing drive shaft

I'm trying to remove the drive shaft on my 1980 Vette and just can't find a socket that will fit the bolts on the rear differential. 5/16" is too big, 9/32 is too small, 8 mm too big and 7,5 mm too small. There just isn't room to get in there with a pair of vice grips and get the bolts out. I'll replace the bolts when I get them out.

Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

My 75 is 7/16. I did it last week and use a 7/16 6 sided socket and two long extensions. Drop the driveshaft at the transmission first and then with the long extensions do the back.

Going from memory when I did my '81 a couple of years back, but is it possible they are 12 point bolt heads? I just used a 1/4 drive set with a very long extension and it wasn't much of a problem. Maybe someone else knows for sure.
