Default Distributor Question

I am new to this backyard machanic thing. Last night I attempted to replace points and condensor, a friend of mine was there to teach me and help. We removed the distibutor so that I could see one out of the car and also so he could explane better how it works and also easier access. Everything went great I learned a lot, we put the new point and condesor in and re-installed it. Car started right up, he then showed me how to check and set timming and check and set the dwell. Again, the car starts and runs well at idle.

My concern (question) is, before removing the Dist. the vacuum Adv. can was pointing at about 8 o'clock, now its at 9. Did we install it incorrect? could we be off a tooth and still run good?

I have a 1969 350 300hp.

Sorry for the long explanation. Thanks for any input

You shifted it one tooth when you re-installed it. This will change the clocking of the distributor, but has no effect on performance if you timed it.
