Default Differential Question

What should I do to the rear end so it will hold up to 700hp? I would like to stay with the irs but willing to switch it out to make sure it is reliable.

Thanks for all comments

Van Steel, as-well-as other vendors, offers many solutions to your problem, in keeping the car IRS-equipped.....

that's a lot of power, even for, and I hate to say it, a Ford 9 inch. It depends also on the driving your doing. gtr1999, in my opinion is the best when it comes to this thing. I've also heard Van Steel is Great. Ask these guys, they're A+.

Thanks for the replies,

My driving will be mostly street but will drag it 4-5 year and would like to autocross it but I am new to autocross so my driving will not be that extreme to start with. It will have an automatic with slick for quarter mile. I think a 9in would hold up fine, just not sure a prepared corvette differential will. It has been mentioned to go with Tom's Differential 12 bolt but they need me to provide a suitable punkin but their not sure which years will work and the new punkin is not available yet and no real date on when. I need to do something in the next couple of months.

Thanks
Chuck

The early c2 housing are narrower, I think they opened them up around 65-66? The later housings are better for a 12 bolt setup.

Where's HotRod Jim when you need him?....the IRS system should be able to handle that kinda crank ponies....it seemed to work for Penske and various other. When tweaked a bit there is short fall in the area of twisting axles. But they have some tough ones...solid mount for the diff keep things in check is everything else is good.....One would suppose that tire grip or slippage would be the real issue. Speaking of slippage it could help save that precious rear.

Mine is a 65 and not right so it must be later. Gtr1999 I sent you an email also.

VetteLs6- I would like to limit the slipage as much as possible. I plan on Hoosier Quick times at the strip but would be sticky street tires the rest of the time. I am running a ZL1 Ram Jet with a 200 shot of nitrous, so the hp will come on hard just off the line. Also I see you are in ABQ, I live in Rio Rancho, always glad to meet vette guys. My number is 896-5566 work if you ever like to meet.

Thanks for the help
Chuck
