I have the wiper door actuator off of my '71 (T-Tops, SB, 4 speed). The long adjusting nut (about 3 inches long) has left and right hand threads on either end. Is the proper assembly method to start threading both ends at the same time? Then, when is it adjusted correctly? Assy manual says stop when lock nut to actuator distance is 3/8 inch with wiper door shut....is this correct as it depends on the first question of starting both ends of the adjusting nut at the same time.
Also, has anyone ever add a shim between the wiper door support and the rear side of the firewall to move the wiper door towards the back of the car slightly?? It looks like everything has to come out to get to the shim area....really tight area.
Thanks

Yes, you can add shims to that area to move the door. Yes, you will have to take everything there out. May already be some shims there. Might also need to swap the mounting studs for longer ones. Just be careful not to go too far back. If the door stop is not correctly set you can crack the windshield. Ask me how I know... Good time to clean and paint in there while doing it!
