Default which Carb???

Hey guys, I have a '71 4-speed convertible and unfortunately, not the original motor. Now it has a ZZ3 with an Edelbrock 600cfm 1406 on it. It stutters while cruising and when I accelerate it chokes a bit and then I get the power. My only experience with carburetors is with my Cobra. I had a Holley 600cfm and replaced it with a Demon 650cfm. The performance gain (acceleration) was exceptional. Would it be better to rebuild the Edelbrock or go with a Demon? Let me know what you guys think!

PS. Let’s assume the timing, plugs, pumps and so on are in correct working condition!

a 600 cfm performer or 650 cfm thunder from edelbrock are good carbs when tuned properly for the engine, thier main weak spot is fuel starvation on high G-force cornering because of the jet placement.
i never use a edelbrock (afb or avs style) larger than the 600-650 cfmbecause of a lean off idle problem that is built into them.

i like the Mighty Demons for a high performance engine or a q-jet is also a good choice once tuned for the engine.

Make sure it is jetted for your elevation, I have had three and always have been able to get them running great with a strip kit. also, look in the owners manual for the pfoper step up springs to use (also in the strip kit). a few jsts and rods will much less expensive than a Demon and you will have the experience of tuning Edelbrocks.
