Default Engine Identification

First time caller here . . . I bought my first Vette last year, a red '76; it took me a couple of life times to get, but finally got there. I have a 1000 questions, so let me start with this one. I have been researching my engine VIN, but I'm not sure I'm reading it correctly and can't finf the engine suffix in any of my Corvette books.

Engine VIN = T0713CKJ

T = Tonawanda ?
0713 = July 13 ?
CKJ = Engine suffix, can't find any info about

If you can validate my assumptions and provide any additional info on the engine (displacement, HP, CR, etc.) I'd appreciate it

This is an AWESOME forum and I appreciate all the great input from everyone; I have already gotten many new ideas on how to breath life back into and improve my '76. Thanks for helping us keep these older Vettes "Fast and Furious"!!!!

Not sure what CKJ is, but if you want to know what engine came in the car look at the fifth character in VIN. "L" would be the base L48, 350/180, and "X" would be the L82 350/210.

You are correct on all of the above.

T for the Tonawanda, New York engine assembly plant. All C3 big block engines came from Tonawanda. All C3 small block engines came from the Flint, Michigan engine assembly plant (coded V).

0713 is the date the engine was assembled at Tonawanda. It was then shipped by rail to whatever GM vehicle assembly plant it was destined. The original vehicle this engine went into would have been assembled after 0713.

The CKJ throws you because your engine is not a Corvette engine.

Thanks guys . . . good info. This is great, it won't hurt a bit when I rip it out and replace with something more fun. I didn't think it was an original engine when I bought it, plus I was looking for a project car that I could hot rod, so numbers weren't a concern.
