Default Dash recovering?

Has anyone had thier dash recovered instead of paying the $400 a new one costs? What are the opinions on this?

I've heard the dash pad skin is the only upholstery panel skin which appears to work. They used to sell door panel and dash panel skins for this type of fix, but the installation was always extremely difficult, the results did not look good, and the vendors received too many dissatisfied customer complaints. They quit selling them, But the dash pad skin is supposed to work. Good luck.

I think if I go the recovering route I will definately take it to an upholstery shop and have them do it. A guy that I work with owned a Vet several years ago and said that he had his done for around $150. I'm not concearned about origionality but I do want something that will look good but not break the bank.

I've heard taking the dash out can cause damage to it.
Is this true?

The cheapest place for new pieces seem to be at The Last Detail.
68-69 $260
70-77 $302
But then fit becomes an issue.

A good used one to redye is the best choice.
I'll be looking for one at Carlisle.
