Default Carb to Crossfire...Im sure it can be done.

There is a guy in Murfreesboro TN that has a crossfire throttle body of an 82 that he converted to an LS1. I was going to buy it for a spare but I have not yet. He also has the exhaust manifolds. I did buy the computer and air cleaner from him. I would be willing to part with the air cleaner but I am keeping the computer as a spare. There is also a company in texas that rebuilds and ports crossfire throttle bodies. PM me back if your interested and I will look up the contact information for you.

Generally the response of "why?" pops up regarding that. TPI is much better and you have more power headroom with a carb than either. CFI and TPI will probably be slightly more efficient but TPI is quite a bit more efficient than CFI. TPI is widely used and is rather easy to setup. There's also a lot more knowledge passed around about TPI. So if you really want to go with a cheap "bolt-on" fuel injection setup, we usually say go TPI.

If you're looking for better gas mileage an over drive transmission will save you a lot more at the pump.
If you just want to be different with a cheap injection system, go for it.

Okay....Okay....I guess that posting sounded a little weird. Well I actually have removed my CFI set up and have it fully complete, computer, harness, and everything. The parts are in great shape and I wanted to give it away to someone who really needed it. When I offered up some other parts on the parts forum I had so many emails and from people who didn't really need the parts. I am not into selling the parts to make money but to give it away to those who are in need of them. This forum has been good to me and I just want to give back to it.

Installing the CFI setup should be pretty simple if you have everything, basically it's install the mahnifold and lid and watch for proper gasket fitting to avoid vac leaks, then install the wiring harness, use a VAC hose for the MAP (normal rubber fuel hose will collapse). Screw the knock sensor in the block drain hole, install the O2 sensor in the exhaust. You don't need any of the emissions equipment, they will not trigger a code when not installed

I personally don't think the TPI gives that much more performance, it does introduce a whole new set of potential problems, air leaks on the numerous gaskets, 8 injectors to go bad on you and I am not fond of any MAF system.

The CFI is pretty simple to set up and maintain once you know what to look for, it's pretty torquey and the Hp difference with TPI is easily matched or bettered. Also it doens't sound like a clogged vacuum cleaner but nice and throaty with it's wet flow manifold.

In my opinion the 82 (especially the collector edition) is the nicest driver of all c3's

I love my '82, CFI and all.

The way I look at it, the more '82s that get their CFI replaced will only increase the collector value of mine down the road, say 50 years from now !
