I am on the passenger side and have taken out the fan motor to stabilize the power wire a little better. I have also taken out the main AC hose as it has to be replaced. I know where all of the wires go to except one. There is a green wire coming out of the harness near the compressor. This has about 1.5' of length. The wiring for the compressor is accounted for, as is the wiring for the motor and temp control sensor that appears to jump to the compressor. I just can't figure out where the other wire goes.
There are 2 wires coming out of the particular location. A dark green wire that plugs into the compressor and this light green wire.
Looking my color wiring diagram I see the following:
1. A yellow wire coming from compressor connected to a light green wire that is connected to the switch. Due yellow wire is connected to light green wire, you can assume is only one wire (light green one).
2. You can observe a tan wire that connect compressor with switch.
3. A light blue wire that connect A/C compressor with switch.
4. Purple wire that connect switch with A/C blower motor.
The important thing is connect your wires adequately as indicated by the wiring diagram. Test them for continuity to check they are good.
Good luck.

I have the same extra wire on my 80 L-48. I looked it up in the assembly manual and it says it is for the L-82 engine option only. Normally it is wrapped in the wiring harness on the L-48. It doesn't say what it is...
