Default New Engine questions .

Hi,

I have a 1975 corvette coupe but I would like to put a new engine in it with some more Power.

I was looking and I found this company (http://www.corvette-corral.com/Street_Performance_Engines.html)
A complete turn key engine sells for just under $4000.00 and then you have 450HP.

Does anybody know if these engines are good ? Or do you know another company that sells good engines for a reasonable price.

Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

No experience, but it sounds a little on the high side.

I have been trying to get a price for a Big Block from them since April!! The web page isn't very clear as to exactly what you get. They keep promising to email me a quote, but I never get it. Steve, the owner, seems to be very friendly and knowledgeable, but I can't for the life of me get him to give me a price!!! I have tried to call four or five times every day this week but there is no answer, in the past when I do finally get an answer, they can't give me a price.

The only reason I haven't given up is because their price is almost half of anyone else's. And I simply can't afford a $7000 GM crate engine.

Do a search on corvette-corral and you'll find that no one has actually bought an engine from them, but suspect that they will do a good job.

I don't know anything about this company about this company. They may be very good and the engine may be a great value. Having said that, however, I would not take a chance. If you have to try this hard to get them to sell something to you, what can you expect when you have questions or a warranty claim?

I can tell you from experience that Street and Performance is a great company to deal with. Their prices are a little on the high side, but they are extremely helpful. They are re-programming my computer for my conversion.

Look at http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/ They have a great discussion board and sell GM Performance Parts engine (ZZ4's and 502 etc). The will create an engine to your specs using the crate engines as a base. Good thing about the crate engines is they come with a 1 year warrenty!!! They are reasonably priced also and every part is brand new.

I like the GM warranty too. I have my eye on this one. http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Chev...eeZZ450HP.html

It's a bit pricey, but still cheaper than a BB. Try a search for Jim Pace Chevy too.

Actually go with the regular ZZ4 -- more torque, less money -- it's torque that gets you moving on the street. And the torque is at a lower RPM.

Anyway -- you need to change the water pump to a short water pump. The one on the ZZ4's is a long.
The flexplate may not work, but you can use the one from your original motor.

I am buying mine from Sallee Chevrolet -- I am on the phone with them right now. http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Chev...ckV8s/355.html

They are offering an exchange on the water pump, for the smaller aluminum pump for $120 installed. They are also offering a new flexplate, exchange, for $30.
And the kicker is they are throwing in a 670 CFM Holley Avenger for $295 -- Summit and Jegs want $360 for that carb. !!!!!

I'll post again when I get done with the phone call.

Just ordered the motor --- ZZ4 with new Edelbrock Aluminum water pump, new flexplate and new Holley Avenger 670 CFM.

I can't use the flexplate that comes on the ZZ4 unless I go to a smaller starter. I want to use mine, it's a good starter. And the flexplate on the car now won't bolt to the crank in the ZZ4.

Call and talk to Tom at Sallee Chevrolet. 800-545-0048.
Prices were as follows:
ZZ4 - $3395
Water pump - Aluminum Edelbrock short pump with 3/4 shaft, custom ground housing to fit motor, installed, exchange - $120
Flexplate - exchange, installed $35
Holley Avenger 670 CFM carburator - $295 !!!!!!!
Shipping - to Phoenix freight yard - $185
Tax -- $0.00 !!!!!

Total -- $4030.00 for a new 355 HP / 405 ft/tq motor with carb, water pump, flex plate and a LOT of smiles !!!!!!!

They said it would be in the "race" shop on Monday for water pump and flex plate install, and then would ship out on Tuesday. Should arrive on Friday. I won't be starting the install until Sept 30.

What about this engine (http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/ChevySmallBlockV8s/350_HO_Super_Deluxe.html)

Isn't this better than the zz4, 355Hp ?

If I put a new one in I want the best one.

It does have more HP and Torque than the ZZ4.

It does not have aluminum cylinder heads, and I wonder if the cam may not be a little too much for street driving.
Also, the pistons, rods, crank, and other internal items are of lower quality.

The price was $3,950 , so that's not bad for a complete motor.
