ok i am pretty lazy with this stuff and usually just take all our cars and have the oil changed and everything. I have finally decided to start doing it myself......at least on the Vettes lol......First question....the 74 has a base 350 in it but the owner before me added the pertronix setup to the factory distributor. What should i gap the plugs at?
Other horribly basic question....when putting on the new oil fiter do you guys put oil in it before putting it on or just put it on then add oil?
Good decision, good for you. The more you do, the more you'll want to do.
Spark plug gap = 0.035 I pre-fill the filter and coat the rubber gasket on top with clean oil too.
Ditto...also if you ever have to add oil between changes then never add oil of a different weight of the same brand and never a different brand at the same time.... this can be bad for oil already in your system and turn acidic .... pick a good brand of oil that doesn't build up in your system and use it exclusively. Unless you decide to change oil than same rules apply.
I use delo oil that is now sold by Kragen auto parts in my area. Pennzoil and some others are not favored and some may say different but you might want to do some research for yourself and the best oil for you.
Well changed it out tonight...filled her with Mobil 1. Have always liked running the synthetics in my cars. Have to swap out plugs and air filter tomorrow.
