Default TH400 not shifting

I was actually able to get my car out today.. filled up the tranny fluid, checked for leaks etc.. then went to put it in gear.. felt the clunk in the tranny.. then nothin

would BARELY back up in reverse.. then when I put it in drive.. felt like the 2200 tci convertor was sticking.. This is the first time in over a year I've driven the car. is it possible there's a vacuum leak that could cause this?

it feels like the tranny is either stuck in a gear, or just not wanting to move

Are you sure you have enough tranny fluid in there? I had that happen once before in a Chevelle of mine and I didnt have the car or tranny warmed up and I didnt have enough fluid. I had to fill the tranny fluid with the car running. Im sure you know that though, at the time I didnt lol.

to go from park to reverse.. it's always done this so i never questioned it..

with the car on jacks, I'd mash the throttle and the tires would move.. on the ground.. nope

hm... i added about half a gallon of fluid just as an experiment.. and it sort of shifts now

guess the cooler lines being disconnected at the tranny and radiator had somethin to do with it

i'll keep adding more fluid

i had some minor trans problems earlier this year, wasnt shifting right at first it didnt want to go outta 2nt gear, problem was found in valve body,(700 r-4) some valve/plunger sticking, mechanic changed part, said it was a freak thing, cost me a little over 150.00, got the fluid and filter changed at the same time,,,could be something simple, id have it looked at by a trans shop

not good thats water. possibly a bad cooler in the radiator. you need to drain that fluid now before it damages your clutches.

NFW..

all the fluid is pretty much brand new.. thats already a fairly transparent red, add that to a silver dipstick and you get that pinkish color. I'll get some pics of it in the morning

trans fluid along with a little coolant/water will give you a pinkish color, sort of like a pepto bismol pink
