Default Brake problems...im going nuts!

Well i have changed almost everything on my brakes,i have wilwood front calipers, new lines, new master cylinder and restored bak calipers.i also removed the brake proportioning valve as suggested by Norval.
I bench bled the master before mounting it to the car.
Now when i bleed the system i get a spongy pedal, havent gotten it to be hard, then when i let the car sit awhile the pedal goes to the floor again,it was the same before i changed the master...
what tha heck is wrong? im going nuts

I'm sure that this has been covered before, but how are you bleeding the brakes? Order?

Did you check all the lines for any weakness?

sounds like air somewhere. Bleed order is somewhat important. Are you bleeding each caliper until its clear?

I had the same problem on my 76 coupe. After changing all of the brake lines and the master cyl 4 times someone suggested i check the rotors for true. Sure enough, the rear rotors had been drilled out and replaced and were way out of true. As they turn in the caliper they draw in air thus giving the spongy or no pedal. we cut up an aluminum Coke can to make shims to go behind the rotors and never had another problem. The Coke can shims were still there 3 years later when I got rid of the car.

I was bleeding my brakes after installing a new MC and booster a couple weeks ago. Did it in order using my "mighty vac", and they worked pretty good for about 10 minutes.

OK, no problem, got my daughter on the brake pedal and did them again.

Worked well for a few more minutes.

Well, turns out that one of my bleeder valves had a burr on the sealing surface and would not properly seal. It was allowing air into the system. I deburred it with some emory cloth, cleaned it up with some acetone, put it back in, and they now work great.

Don't know that this is your problem, but it's often the smallest things that cause the biggest headaches.

Good luck.

BTW, I think you would still follow bleed order regardless of the distribution/pressure/proportioning block.

Default Great little tool

I had many problems bleeding my brakes on my 74 corvette. I would always loss the "hardness" to the pedal after a month or so. I bought this great tool from ecklers and never had a problem again. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...&dept%5Fid=120
