When one turns the wheel to A/C on the control panel, what actually happens that tells the compressor to start? Is there a mechanical or electrical switch ? If there is a switch, where is it located? The compressor runs and cools when jumped from the alternator. I had the dash and console out and replaced both. Where might I look for something disconnected? There are two terminals by the fuse panel going no where. One is a white terminal the other black. Both are male and have light brown wire. Fuse is okay.
Ignition heat shields make great grounds. Tracing the brown wire back from the compressor I discovered it is routed under the distributor heat shield and as one might guess in a 30 year old daily driver, there was the brown wire, wire exposed touching the heat shield. Moved to wire away from the hear shield and the compressor started! Thanks for the suggestion.
