Ok my 82 (still with crossfire) idles fine and drives well. However, at full throttle the car bogs down, hesitates, acts like the engine is going to shutdown and then recovers and operates like it is suppose to. What would be causing this?
fuel pump or fuel filter. The filter is on the passenger side behind the front wheel, inside the frame rail. If you lay under the car you'll see it, the hard line goes into a rubber line into the big metal canister fitler and then to rubber and to the hard line for the engine bay.
Mine did that also. Would not go above 65mph without missing. I installed an '85 fuel pump and the problem went away. I can burry the needle with no problem, without any missing or studdering. Also changed fuel filter at same time.
well I am starting with the fuel filter i have allready bought it. I was also told to check the fuel tank for sediment and to see what the sock locked like (in tank filter). I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key before ignition so I think the fuel pump is fine. Someone told that the injectors could be clogged and to remove the breather and see if there was an uneven or irratic fuel spray pattern.
Ok I replaced the fuel filter. The car runs a little better under full throttle. It does not act like it wants to shut down. However under full throttle, It feels like it has no power like its missing passing gear or something. ?????????/ What is next Fuel pump, spark plugs?

It sounds like weak fuel pressure. Does it seem like its hanging?? Best thing to do before you start throwing money at it is check the fuel pressure. It should be between 9-13 psi. The closer to 13 the better. Anything down around 9 or less change the pump. If you change it put a pump from a 1985 in.
Ok if I install an 85 fuel pump in my 82. are there any mods that i have to do to get the pump to fit the sending unit or better yet how do I install it?
undo electrical connector, remove all hoses (3) note what goes where, on right 1 is return, 1 is feed, on left the hose goes to a little mounting block, it's for the evap.
undo all flange bolts and lift it up, twist and turn to take the assembly out. Remove stock pump and strainer.
Buy (or you should have bought) a new DELCO!!! pump w/ new strainer. The pump should come w/ the connector and a short section of wire. Cut off the original wire ends of the original wires and solder the new wires on (ntoe + and - !) and use shrink wrap to seal it off.
Install 85 pump including the foam collar (noise reduction), hook up the short rubber hose section and use a hose clamp (stock doesn't have a hose clamp but install one now), install fresh new strainer and reinstal everything. Done!
