Default Headlight Doors

How does the headlight switch and the bypass switch work independently from one another? It seems that you would have to open both at the same time. How do it know?

The system works on vacuum. When vacuum is supplied to the actuator valve the headlights close. If and when vacuum is lost at the valve the headlights open. This is a safety feature. It defalts with the headlights open. So the override valve is a simple inline valve between the HL vacuum switch and the actuator valve.

Not sure what you're asking. The headlight and override switches each have vacuum going to them. Each activates the headlight actuators when either is switched on. When using the headlight switch, the lights come on because electrical current is being supplied. When using the override, the lights will raise but will not be on because no current is provided. If you're saying your lights will not work unless both switches are on, I'd be williing to bet you have a loose vacuum connection at the headlight switch. If you listen carefully, you can probably hear it.

I get it. Thats why there is a check valve. I was thinking in the opposite direction.

Ok, I can hear hissing at the headlight switch with the healights on. Mine will not go up on their own with the switch or override valve. I reach under, push them up and they stay up with the override vavle activated. As soon as a push the override vavle back in, they go back down immediately. I have the speedo cluster out and the headlight swith hooked up, but not mounted so it's pretty easy to check things out now, I had no dash lights which was the reason for replacign the switch, which fixed that problem, now I'd like to get the headlights to raise properly.

Vacuum leak at the switch. Check the two hoses.
