what is this thing and where did it go? while i have you, on the 82 from hell the fuel pump runs continuously. i must pop fuse (which of course is the hardest one to get to) every time i leave the car. i know there a relay by the battery box but dont know where to start.

Thats a terrible pix. I would only send that to someone to annoy them.
As for the fuel pump wiring the only thing obvious is that the ign switch is bypassed. You need an '82 wiring diagram and if u can't read it then u will need to find an electrician who can. I can't imagine trying to troubleshoot wiring unseen let alone over the internet.
I don't recognize the item in the photo. 82 Vettes (and 84) have a switch in the oil pressure sending unit. The switch only closes when there is oil pressure - thereby turning on the fuel pump. The switch could be stuck, but there should only be voltage if the ignition switch is on. You have a short somewhere allowing 12V to the fuel pump at all times. The sending unit is black plastic and mounted right next to the distributor on the driver's side. If you take it out and test the terminals, the two side (adjacent) terminals are for the switch. The third (bottom, if you look at it as a "U") is for the oil pressure - using chassis ground through the threads to complete the circuit. First make sure the switch isn't stuck. Second, find out why there is voltage to it with the ignition off. Good luck.
To avoid over-exposure your camera likely closed the aperture or shortened the shutter time. I suggest taking a photo on a surface other then white and getting it out into the sun for lots of light. A flash works too but not as well.
That's an easy one, it's the connector for your (original) knock sensor which is screwed into the passenger side block drain hole, just above the oil pan flange
Have you seen him? He's like from the future, or Omicron Persei 8, or maybe a parallel universe. SuperVetteMan. His weapons are shock & awe. Mere mortal Vette drivers dip their headlights when he passes!
My name for T/T is Mr Vice grip. Due to his supply of them in his garage. All kidding aside he does know his S**t about these cars of ours and more important is his willingness to share that knowledge
