Default Sunvisor help needed!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently bought a used sunvisor for my 78 SA, the part is in good shape and even came with the metal arm/rod, but I'm having trouble installing it. I found the thread that said how to remove the old metal rod, just take the plastic cap off the top and use a punch to knock the rod out of that star shaped retaining clip, but I'm not so sure I want to do that. My car has the original rod, but no visor on it. So, now to my questions.

Is there a way to take the visor off of the rod and put it on the original one in my car? Or do I have to just knock the old rod out? If I end up having to knock the rod out, am I going to need a new star shaped retaining nut or whatever it's called?

I think you pry out the chrome cap on the top. I had to put a small flathead screwdriver in one edge and actually hammer down easy on it to raise the opposite side until I was able to get it up.

One thats off there is the rod coming up and it has a spring and the star washer/nut on the end. Take the flat head screwdriver and place it down beside the star washer/nut end and wiggle back and forth and it should work its way up and off the rod. It might get bent a little but you should be able to straighten it out.

Once the star washer/nut thingamajig is off the spring will just slide out. Then take a hammer and a punch or screwdriver and tap down easy on the rod and it should fall out along with the sunvisor.

Hope this helps.

I did it. So for anyone else in my position, here's how.

I have a screwdriver looking tool that has a wavy pointy end on it, kind of like an "all" but bent a little on the end ~, anyway as recommended I wedged it beside/under the star retaining nut, wiggled back and forth while pulling up and eventually it came out, you can then pull the spring out. All that is left is to put a punch on the sunvisor bar and knock it out.

To get the new visor in, I wedged it in the hole as it should go, then put the spring in the top and the star retaining nut sat on top of the spring. I got a deep socket just barely bigger than the retaining nut, sat it on the retaining nut and gave it a solid whack with a hammer and it jammed the retaining nut back onto the bar. This part took a few tries, but it eventually went.

Thanks to everyone that helped. I hope this helps someone else in the future.
