In 1970 there was an LS6 but it was put in the Chevelle and not the corvette. It was available in the vette in 1971 with a lower compression ratio.

ajrothm, as I told you in an earlier thread I just got back from T&L from seeing my 408 dyno run. I had Loyd build me exacly what you are asking for. I wanted all I could get but insisted that the ac and all vac accessories must work at idle. This thing is pushing 500 pulling water pump, fuel pump, alt, ps, and ac cmpressor with about 500ft.lbs of torque. PM me with your address and Ill send you a copy of my dyno run DVD if you want, its pretty awsome.

That's kinda generalizing but it also depends on the track. On a tight road course the SB would be the advantage no doubt.

EVERY C3 that raced and won LeMans had a Big Block for a reason.

you might get a hair in a corner on a normal big block, coming
out of the corner that big block will blow past your small block like
its stuck in the mud and he will have a big edge in getting around the next corner , and then be further gone from you to the next corner.
John greenwood and a lot of others did not have a small block to
get serious with they had rats. Still like small blocks they are just
a little on the weak side.
I don't believe a small block is that much lighter then a big block with aluminum heads. I do have a 100 pound blower but my problem seemed to be pulling the brakes hard while turning at the same time. With my massive front brakes, the weight of the motor and all while pulling the brakes in a turn really caused the back end to slide out.
But also in the straight aways I could quickly run him down.
I do a have a good friend with a top of the line 383 , he spared no expense and the sounds comming from is motor is second to none but when it comes to playing I don't have to work at it. While he would have to downshift I can give him the jump, stay locked in high even with 308 gearing and still jsut walk away. Sure I am blown but I keep after the guys that for the money they have in their small blocks they could easily have a big block and alot more pulling power. Now adays even a 540 is easy to put together and not that expensive.
Want a 454 small block Ohio crank has them for about $6800

Adding a massive rear sway bar to my car seemed to have solved my problems with braking and turning.

Default 502zz

I have a 81 SB auto,
I just purchased a 74 BB 4 speed. I have a ZZ502 sitting in the garage floor, stil in the crate, carb set up as the guys at scoggins dickey said they were have a lot of bad feed back on the fuel injection.
My daughter goes to med school there so I was able to pick it up on a visit, so only $7600.00.
Tell me everthing I need to do the the 74. I know HP flywheel, clutch etc. I want side pipes and headers. What brand and where to buy.
I want to go with Hyd. clutch, where to get this set up.
I will replace the rear spring and half shafts and am thinking about 275/50"s.????????????????? Oh, and and going to keep stock radiator and use the duel 11 inch spals. Unless I hear different on that. GM also sell's a complete serpitine belt system, complete wiht alt, power steering and a/c comp. It looks like it will fit??? HELP

There is a fellow forum member that has a 10 something second modified 502 Vette. I was hoping that he would chime in.

I have a hot rodded 383. It's really a joy to drive. But when I installed a 427 ci small block it was a whole new animal. Going to a 502 or hot rodded BBC would really be fun. The cheapest way to get HP is a supercharger. Put a supercharger on a small block and no BBC is going to catch you. One of the forum members has a supercharger and a 150 spray system on his drag racing Small block Vette

Cooling is not a problem if you throw enough money at it.

I've competed off and on over the years at the "All corvette drags" at Sacramento California. Something has to be wrong with a 468 built up only doing low 12's.

The real license plate type cars N.A. who have their cars really dialed in were doing 11:70's with 383's the 396 -421 ci Vettes were about 11.50's . The 468's - 540 ci were all 10 - 11 second cars. People with power adders like N20 and supercharged or Turbos were as low as about 9-10 seconds once they got upto about 800 hp
