Re: Dyno run was disappointing (tsw71)
In addition, I intalled these lifters on a new cam after having been run a short time on a milder cam(Remember, I was young then :bb )
Is it possible for a cam to go flat without the usual symptoms of poping and running rough?
What are your thoughts on all of this?
Tom
Replace the cam, lifters, and springs as mentioned above. Once lifters are broken in on a cam they are no longer usable on ANY other camshaft. There are no exceptions to this rule. In addition, I’d tear the motor down for inspection. Good luck!
I would ask Drives 61 where he has his jetting and then your going to need at least 2-4 jets higher primary and 1-2 seconds because of a big cam and single plane. More CFM will give bigger dyno numbers with a loss of drivability.
If you have high bleed off lifters the idea about changing motor oil weight is very true. I only know one person that ran Crane hi-intensity H-lifters and he said something to the effect that they (high bleed off lifters) might be a good idea in a narrow controled environement. oil weight, engine temp, and oil pressure could make them not work at all. He had a hi-volume pump with 65+ lbs and 20-50 oil and said that they were the next thing to being solid anyway so they were a waste of money.
Check to make sure that the butterflies are opening all the way on the carb. If your accelerator linkage is slipping, it could explain the power loss after each run because it could be slipping a little during each run. I personally don't think this is the problem (because you say it revs slow) but check it anyway. Could be part of the problem.
