Default engine/tranny swap question

okay im sure this has been discussed multiple times, and i promice that i have searched, but i found nothing. my question is this; my car (1980) has a measly 305 in it witch has to go. i have read about something that is refered to as "4 bolt" and "2 bolt" i have no idea what this is. i want to put in a 350 crate engine, and possible a 454, im not quite sure yet but im leaning twards the 350. will a 350 crate motor slide right in? also if anybody has any advice on replacing my 3 speed automatic transmission with a manual, that would be appriciated, thank you very much and again im sorry that i could not find the answers that im sure are out there somewhere.

As for the 350 it is a drop in. But you can also put in a 383 or a 406 as well will be a drop in. They are the same since they are Small Blocks.

Now for a Big Block you will need some cheap parts and expensive ones.

For the Gear Box it seems the biggie is a 5 speed. For that I would contact ClassicChevy5Speed and keisler and see what they have to say.

Or you can look here and save some funds on the conversion by using the Ford 5 speed and gathering the parts you need yourself. A good person to ask about this is Norvall here on the forum.

I think they were talking about the Main bolts most have two but some have four. But that does not matter as far as which ones will fit your car.

Hey Jibbernaught, if you decide to get rid of your 305 lemme know. I need one in a bad way for a sentimental project I'm working on. It's backwards from the rest of you guys...I'm taking the newly-rebuilt 355 out and looking for a 305 to put in it's place! :o
