I am in the process of getting my 69 back on the road. Haven't had it on the road for 2 years and went to put on the directionals......nothing. No light turning on and not blinking, no indicators....nothing. I replaced the flasher and all of the bulbs are lit. The 4-ways work fine, but no blinkers. Any ideas what the problem might be? I hate to pull the steering wheel and get into the wiring attached to the control arm, but maybe I need to. I wanted to see if anybody had any ideas before I dive in.
Could it be a fuse or a link? I checked all of the fuses and they all seem fine.
I assume they were working when you put her on ice 2 years ago...were they working? I'd find the fuse for the blinkers and ohm it out...make sure it's good....then, well, you know what....but sounds like no power to the signal lites at all...

kb2fzq: Yes they worked before, now they are OPD (Officially Pronounced Dead). I'll check the fuses again, but they all seemed fine when I used a volt meter in place. I'll pull the one for the directionals (if I can figure out which one that is) and see if it ohms OK.
sweethence: I'll tell that to the inspection sticker guy. I'm sure he'll understand and give me a sticker.....

Thanks, guys.
yeah they wouldnt go for it here either, try pulling the steeing colum harness and checking the switch out with your mteter there before you start going nuts, it may be something as simple as the dust/ corrosion in the switch contacts if it all worked before, check this first the proceed with the harder diagnosis

easy first....hard later
Where it was stored for 2 years....them little wire chewin' mousey's could get to it???
I had a similar problem last year. Try unscrewing the taillight covers and pulling them out. Check the connections between the wire and the housing, mine were loose. A little bit of wiggling and tightening might be all it takes
Had the same problem 2 months ago on my 71. I checked the fuses with with my fluke meter. Fuse was good, power at both ends. But the problem was the conection between the fuse and the retainer clips. Found it by accident cleaned the retainer clips with crc contact cleaner and a o-ring pick, put the fuse back in and all was well. Ron B.
Good idea.....I'll check it out and see if that is the problem. I really, really, really don't want to get into the steering column and all that junk......
