Is it the Forum or is it me? I get this annoying :mad popup at the top of my screen which is a Message Alert! "I have 1 message waiting for you." When I click on it, I get some type of $115 shopping spree. When I "X" on it, it hangs me up. My popup killer doesn't work because I log in through AOL.
I have the same thing on my screen now, but it's not a popup. Just a banner designed to look like a popup. They figure a lot of people will try and close it by clicking on the X, which just takes them to the ad as if you clicked on the banner.
At least it's not as bad as the X1 Camera popups. These people have the be the most hated company on the internet.
no matter how much they are hated, you did say it was an X1 camera...so I think their ad campaign worked...People remember what they hate more then what they like...you hate those popups, you'll remember them more....I think its good tactic on the companies part, but yes, VERY annoying...Im just trying to tell you that no matter how much you hate them, they must be working, or you wouldn't have said "X1"...
"ANNOYING POPUP" A bit redundant, don't you think? ;)
I guess these things are the "price" of a free forum. That particular one has, however, gone above and beyond - because of the new IM feature on the forum, I thought someone had sent me a message, so I clicked on it. Oh well, fool me once ...
I never have understood the psychology of these things: "hey let us pi$$ you off so you'll buy our stuff." NOT! :boxing I suppose these misleading things work on some people, but personally I think they are . :bs
I even got that "Sprinks" add the other day. BTW I contacted several of the companies that were advertised on Sprinks, and told them that there was a movement on the web to boycott their products because of the Popup. Boy did that stir up a hornet's nest. I got emails, phone calls, and snail mail from most of the companies. None of them had any idea what "Sprinks" was. They contracted thru an advertising agency to have their products advertised on the web. I suggested that they contact the advertising agency and relay the customer dissatisfaction with the methods being used.
I think if we (as a class of customers) were more vocal with these annoying advertisers, then maybe some of this junk would go away.

Jim,
It is not a popup, just a banner ad. Looks like a popup but it is always at the top of the page. Ignore and go on.
tom...
You're right, I do remember, but it's questionable if I would by one of their products if I was in the market to buy because I remembered they sold these types of products or intentionally avoid them.
I had never used a pop-up killer in the 6+ years I've been surfing the net until this started happening. So now I'd have to say their pop-up is less effective than the banner ad because I never see it now. If I see a banner ad I'm interested in, I'll click it.
