Default Factory Sidepipes

I have OEM sidepipes on my 73 L82 and stock rams horn manifolds. I like the look of the pipes but would like to do headers. My plan is to take some block huggers that will bolt up to the engine and modify the factory downpipes (cut 4.5" off, etc.) to make it work out.

Any opinion on whether or not this will be of any benefit? I don't want to modify things and get new headers if the system is still going to be corked at the mufflers.

Opinions?

Go with the Hedman headers for side exhaust. NEW SIDE EXHAUST CERAMIC COATED CORVETTE HEADERS 63-82

Will these fit angled plug heads? I've got trick flow 23 deg with angled plugs.

I thought sidepipes were only factory on the 69's?

Umm...they were sold over the parts counter for many years. Lots of non-69s got the OEM pipes that way.

Gkull mentioned on another post that he had read a test compairing
ram horn manifolds and block huggers and the short headers
were no better then the ram horn manifolds. LannyL81 Header designs...
which is better for the street.

You think your feet get hot now?
Install the headers... you will know the meaning of hot foot.
My previous 73 had headers... I agree the headers do let it breathe better but the heat was a bit too much...

Yes, these were a late addition (not from the factory) but are OEM parts. I got some pictures from Corvette Central with the Hedman block huggers next to the stock rams horn manifolds and they are close...wouldn't be that hard to do.

As for my feet getting hot...I have a lot of people saying that heat in the cabin was a problem for them but I really haven't noticed it. Its a nice weather car (I live in MI, there's not THAT much nice weather) and I don't have any objections to the heat. To help flow and add a bit of power, I'd be willing to be a bit warmer. Oh yea, the car has no A/C either.

Thanks for the help...any more opinions?

I'm actually a little concerned. Mine has hookers and non-factory sidepipes and and old vette guy was telling me how he knows 2 people whose Vettes went ablaze from the heat generated. They are hot... That hot? I don't know, but I'll freak out over anything if the punch line is catastrophe.
