I have a 79 with a slight vibration above 2500 rpm. The engine is 383 with TPI that was balanced when built. I have replaced the flywheel and clutch with no luck. At highway speed car vibrates until you slip the clutch and the car becomes rock steady. I have put new dampner, pulleys, distrbutor, and all new ignition parts. I removed the belts with no luck. Any ideas where to look next....
So your saying that you have this vibration at 2500 in neutral? You said on the road it would straighten out when you slip the clutch. When you press in on the clutch you are forcing the crank forward--too much crank endplay?Did you say you stiill have the vibration at 2500 and all the belts removed?Did you have the flywheel and clutch balanced together?
I had a 78 L-82 with18000 miles that I worked step by step until I narrowed it down to the crank.Stock original crank-surprise--Mon. or Fri. crank?Who knows!
Mine does the same thing when you stick the clutch smooths out it's most noticable in the rear view mirror mines a L-82 rebuild I'm suspecting something in the drive train ,but I'm putting on a new G.M. damper next week keep me posted on any progress I'll do the same
I just rerplaced the whole flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate and roller pilot bushing and the vibration is gone. Dont know what was wrong with the old clutch(300 milws) but it runs smooth now..
