Things were going fine. I drove for about 30 minutes, no probs. Then on the way home, around 60-65mph @ 2500 rpm, the engine just cut out, all of a sudden. No backfire or anyother indicators, just a complete loss of power until I slowed down. I made it home, but I noticed it would cut out at lower speeds, too.
It can only be 1 of 2 things - electrical or fuel. I'm going to start first by looking at the total advance. Any suggestions appreciated
Would a bad coil cause this? It's weird that it took 30 minutes of driving for this to show up. I was thinking it was the engine heat maybe?
I agree that it is most probably fuel or ignition. If you've not changed the fuel filter in a while, I'd start there. Next I'd have a look at the plug wires, points, distributor cap. I had a similar problem this spring and turned out to be a burnt plug wire on #5. These little problems are hard to diagnois but easy to fix once found.
If you decide it is starving for fuel start at the tank.Loosen the gas cap and see if this helps,if it does help check charcoal canister or check valve on side of tank.
It was a collapsed fuel hose -from the steel body line to the fuel pump. It's a new piece of rubber, but apparently, after heating up, it collapsed and pinched off the fuel flow. Do they make a molded piece, or should I just use a longer piece next time?
footnote: I don't have the cannister on mine (non-ec). I do notice when I remove the gas cap, I get the pressure of the vapors escaping. I figure this is normal.
Cap is non-vented. It has a return line running parallel with the feed line. I installed a new OAL-stamped gas tank about 6 mo. ago. It's got the check valve (?) on the top of the tank, and I believe that's what keeps the tank from collapsing by allowing air to come in at a certain point.
I've ordered the molded fuel line and hope that's the end of that
