I used a plastic fuel filter and the stock pump pulsed so hard it busted the fitler housing.
So I changed to a steel housing filter but I can still feel the rubber hose before and after pulsing plus the filter even moves like a heart pumping.
I now know what caused the car to catch fire before I bought it.
Is there something wrong with the fuel pump?
A stock Chevrolet small block fuel pump will not deliver enough fuel line pressure to make a filter pulse/pump. There is definitely something wrong with the fuel pump. I would recommend replacing the unit.
I also have a 79 L-82. This is just a guess on my part. the stock pump and correct aftermarket pumps used a pressure bypass return line. So if you look on the frame rail right down next to the pump you will see a larger supply line and a smaller return line. If it's not connected go get the correct pump. Your other choice is get a inline regulator which will dampen the pumps plunger pulses.
