I have a 68 coupe, and I installed the black rubber backed jute and the carpeting I got had jute on it. I found out the carpet is sold with and without the jute on it. It seems to have to much padding. Should I have got the carpeting with out the jute? AL.
You can just pull the jute off the carpet if you think it's too thick. Sounds like you've got about 3/4" between the two layers of jute, right? That's pretty thick, but it might work. Just be careful around the pedals. I had to keep mine very thin there to maintain full pedal travel.

Correct me if I'm wrong, what I remember of what I removed was the carpet (no padding) sitting on a black rubber backed padding glued the the rear compartment, AL.
My rear compartment was bare carpet against glass...except the fender areas. Those had jute glued to the carpet. I replaced everything with the Al Knoch kit and their's was the same construction as what I pulled out...

Yep!!!. With double padding you'll have to remove the jute under the seat tracks or buy longer seat mount bolts. Difficulty with shift console mounting, shoulder belt retractor mounting and seat belt buckles on the tunnel too. Go single thickness on the jute...
