Slight 4th gear problem

Slight 4th gear problem
'68 with a 327/350HP and a 4-spd. If I'm cruising in 4th, and let off the gas, the shifter will rattle rather violently for a second and it will pop out of 4th gear. This is only an intermittent problem though.
Most of the time it is fine, but its got me wondering if I am doing any damage to the internals of the trans.
Could this just be a linkage adjustment??(fingers crossed) If so, who has a good write up of how to do this?
