BTW ... L2300F is a forged replacement piston for 66-69 427 w/closed chamber heads, 335/390hp.

To each his own ... but I would NEVER buy a motor off ebay from a different state from someone I did not know ... not new, used, rebuilt, short, long or complete ... if there's a problem, you'll own all of it with virtually no practical recourse.

The 1972 402 was a 2 bolt block, I actually have an all numbers matching one (heads, intake, block, carb, etc..) for a 1972 SS car at 240hp. 402's have a real problem with core shift, which is why they were bored out in the first place, the blocks were bored off-center slightly when bored for 396, it's unlikely that one can be found that can be punched out to a 427, but if all of the steps were taken to sonic check it and magnaflux it etc and it could be made into a 427, it's most likely just as durable as any other 427 block as long as it's not making insane horsepower.

That said I would make sure I got one from a local engine builder, because as was said above, if it's junk, you own it when you buy from e-bay usually.

I'd think you'd be better off starting with a more common 454 block. It's going to cost the same amount to build it, so you might as well get as much displacement as you can.

Yeah, but think how this would look on the hood:

Well...I guess I could put in a 454 and still use the 427 emblem. Just have to do this if anyone asks.

Isn't a 427 a 454 bore with a 396 crank?

Here's the 402 I just built this winter. It was lowered in on the weekend and on the dyno it produced 471 horsepower with 460 ft/lbs of torque!

You may want to also ask about balancing. I thought the 454 crank/flywheel was balanced differently than the other big blocks. i.e. internal vs. external.
