Default Build Advice

So I got some "187" 64cc Camel Humps. What cam and manifold are good fits for this build? It's a stock '72 L48. I was thinking the 350/300 or 350/350 cam, but w/ stock pistons (dished) which is the best fit. Not sure what the max lift & duration for that head is.

Also, my compression will increase 1 point? 8.5:1 to 9.5:1? Will that slight change effect which cam performs better/worse? JUst looking to get to 300-350 hp. Drop on a Performer Air-gap, headers and see where I'll be (for now!)

Opinions apprechiated!

I think you should look for a more modern cam then a repo of the
old 350/350hp chevy cam. Something with 220 duration at O50
and 500 lift. 110 to 112 LSA

Comp XE268 hyd flat tappet. It like 224/230@.050, .474/.490 lift or something in that range. I think it was on a 110 lsa. I just stuck one in my dads 355", stock "350/300hp" heads, performer intake/headers. Should have it running in a month or so.

It did have .040, flat top, 2 valve relief speed pro pistons, I think the compression ratio was 9.7-1 with 64cc heads.

With the smalller cross sectional intake area that those heads have and with the compression you have, I would stick with something on the smaller side for more torque. I would look at an Engle 21040-H, it's ground on 112 centers, 215/222 durations at .050" with lifts being .453"/.471".

You could step up to the 2103-H and have it ground on 112 centers,
its 222/222 with .471"/.471".

The consecuences of going to big with the cam is moving my power band too far up in the RPM range? I'd like a nice rumble and lope at idle. I do drive like all my Dad's past and present muscle cars, VERY HARD at times as they were intended, but want it for cruising/street. I guess I want the most cam (within reason) for what I have. Probably till I break something and buy a crate motor.

For comparaisons you could simply step up to the factory L-82 (G.M. #3896962) cam. With 224 degrees @ .050 and .450"/.460" lift and a 114 L/S, it's fairly straightforward to achieve approx. 350 HP and 400 Ft.Lbs. torque with 9.75:1 with your stock heads and rams horn exhaust, stock intake or L-82 intake upgrade and the Q-jet. Being ground on 114 centers, it will not have a radical idle though. That's why I suggested maybe something ground on 112s, 110 centers will have too much overlap for your bottom end.
