1973 CAST ALUMINUM CORVETTE WHEELS RPO#YJ8
I need any info on cast aluminum wheels --which were orginally supose to be offered on the 1973 Corvette RPO#YJ8. These wheels were new for 1973 but were later rejected/recalled by Chevorlet due to porosity problems. Early 1973 models used by magazines feature the car with these wheels for instance the Nov. 1972 issue of Corvette News, Jan. 1973 Motor Trend, etc. These wheels were supose to be destroyed in early 1973. I have two sets of the wheels the 1st with a build date of Oct.1972 and the 2nd in April 1973. If anyone has any info on these wheels--if any cars actually left the factory with these wheels, or any other info would be helpful.
Thanks
Greg

According to the black book only 4 cars were ordered with the wheels, before they were recalled. I am sure a number of sets were produced and sold before the recall, how many are left who knows.
Style is the same as the later 76 wheels.
I have heard of people having some problems even with a later wheels and sealing the inside of the rim so they would hold air.

How can you tell when the wheels were manufactured? I have a '73 with the later style wheels on them -- I assumed they weren't original but I don't know how to tell.
Thanks!
