Can be debated on 78-82. Many changes. Note that the 78- rear glass is reminiscent of the 63-67 coupe so it could have been continued.
78- 25th anniversay of the Corvette- not Stingray. They were already working on the C4 & McLellan had said the styling would be reeled in. 84 induction & 700R4 were in production in 81. So the focus was on the C4.
CORVETTE says it all anyway.

Ganey, The 68 ads refer to the car as a "Sting Ray" (2 words). So either the ad agency or GM's marketing department didn't realize that the 68 model was no longer a Sting Ray!

...there is a Lemans Blue 427 L89 going for auction at Bloomington that is also a super late '68. Reportedly it's "the last L89 '68" and it does also have the '69-'76 style "Stingray" script on the side. It I believe has a build date of M04(August of '68)and I think it's in the last 200 or so built. I'll look at it when I'm out there this weekend.
...I saw a Red/Red '68 L79 coupe years ago and it was 300 cars from the end and it did NOT have the badges.

I allways thought that the 63-67 was the Stingray, and the 68-82 was based on the concept car Mako-Shark, (hence the reference to Sharks when talking about C3's) I was glad that GM continued to call C3's "Stingrays" cause at 13 years old, I can remember seeing a new '68 on TV, I loved all Vettes but the C3 became my obsession.

It is to be Safari Yellow with black vinyl interior.
The reason I asked the question is so I may try to make this car as close to original "looking" as possible as it would have been off the line that last day. I guess in this case it is difficult to know just what took place, and no I guess it doesn't really matter. I was just curious.

Leaving the space out flowed better w/ the long 68 hood.
The Styling Staff sometimes looked at what the customizers were doing. Removal of chrome & emblems was common for a cleaner look. George Barris also removed the chrome bumpers on his 63 Sting Ray custom.
Another example is the 68 El Camino roofline based on the 64 El Camino custom by Harry Bradley.
