I always wonder why folks get hung up on top end? Not like you can legally drive it that way, right?

I love the feel of a good torque motor grabbing and shredding some asphalt with runs up to 80 mph or so.........after that, it's boring........

Hey.....go kill yourself if you want to........

Hensen,

I really envy you guys. Europe does not have driving laws that are designed to fit the lowest common denominator like the U.S. does.

Just like faster aircraft are often safer than slower underpowered aircraft, it is because the pilots are expected to be better qualified if they have the rating to fly them.

Chuck

P.S. With new steering and suspension components at least equal to F41 specs, properly set up, new high speed tires, the C3 will be very stable at 150mph for long trips. Speaking for myself, the cars I have seen driven by naysayer’s had old and sloppy steering components, and front ends riding high like the car was being launched at the drags. But they didn’t understand!

P.P.S Not only hoods can come loose, but T Tops have been known to fly off too. 150mph is fast, careful prep is essential particularly with any old car.

I had my 74R up to 145+mph but that was on a runway...you won't believe how long it takes a standard brake system to stop a c3 from those speeds.....handles OK i have a strong 383 with 700r4 and 3.08 diff.....if you have a convertible you will be driven mad by the canvas top banging and that is even with the front gap of the top duct taped to the windscreen frame...i wouldnt think it would be a good idea with t tops...too much risk of them coming loose......about 120 mph is my comfortable limit......john

I think there is a big difference between the early chrome Bumper C3's and the later ones in terms of nose profiles and front end aerodynamics. In saying that my 70 has been very stable so far up to 135mph. To go any faster in reasonable safety I would need to go to Germany and try it out on an Autobahn and then I would be worrying about the effects of crosswinds etc. The hood is vented so that shouldnt be a problem, famous last words!

What we really need is someone with 'friendly' access to some of the Formula 1 people (or Universities) to run early and late C3 aerodynamics through one of their multi-buck super computers and come up with some realistic results.

Have to agree...my 78 was only two years old when I ran it at Riverside Raceway......we got just one lap and got to open it up on the back straight...132 MPH...very stable..got out of it going into turn 9...

Good point about the T-tops. A friend lost one of his last year at 60mph.
Autobahns: In the early 80's a nutter I knew built a bike with over 200rwhp. Took it to Germany & was doing just over 180mph thinking "Yeah, this is more like it" when he saw in his mirror a car flashing it's light for him to move over & let it pass. What cars would do in excess of 180mph back then?
Pick where you do your high speed testing carefully, there's the aftermath of what looks to be a fatal accident outside my window at the moment. Kind of puts everything in perspective

Yeah, basically if you crash your vette, you better die with it. Otherwise we'll make you wish you had! j/k

But if you drive it, you better not crash.
