of the 2 you are thinking of I like the Dynomax's better. I had flowmasters before and the dyno's didn't have the resonance. louder at idle and low rpm too
In general, I'd say if you're over 40, you'll like the Dynomax Super Turbos,..if under 40, you'd likey prefer a chamber style (Flowmaster) or a straight-thru design.
The above is based on observations and anecdotal evidence,..nothing scientific.
I'm 47,..put me down for the turbos,..love'm and the seem to sound better with age.

I put the Dynomax Super Turbos on my big block. They sound nice. Muscular idle and a nice roar at open throttle. They are a little on the quiet side but sound real good. No resonance at all in my 68 coupe. For the record, I'm 52 years old going on 18 and I like loud exhaust!!!!!!!!! Thank God I never grew up!
I've got Dynomax Ultraflows and I like them a lot. I don't think there is going to be much difference between the two. Basically all they are is a perforated tube inside a shell with packing around the tube. Pretty much a modern version of the old glasspacks. Mine were pretty quiet when I bought them but now that they are broken in I have a nice rumble at idle and at WOT they open up nicely. At cruise they are fairly smooth with a nice tone. I get a little resonance at around 1500 rpm but it's not bad. Good luck with your purchase.
I sell them both and would recommend the the exact fit Dynomax as the tips and brackets are exactly as OEM and provide a simple installation instead of a the requirements of Muffler Shop with tubing and a pipe bender in your garage to place those universal Flowmasters on the Vette. Buy the Dynomax!
PS, plus they dont sound like rattling grapefruit cans.
The UltraFlows are often on sale, maybe you get a good deal at the local muffler shop for installation and tailpipe fabrication. If your tips are in good shape they can weld these on the new (or use your old) tailpipes...
I had two stainless Borla mufflers before I installed the sidepipes, they sounded good. I think Ecklers sells them for around $500/pair. They list them for a C4 only but they fit fine, at least mine did...

Being at the end of the exhaust on our vettes, they don't have that old glasspack sound tho. I think another reason they don't sound like glasspacks is because of the large case size. I paired mine with an X-pipe and it's quiet. The best part is, you still get the superior flow characteristics of the straight-thru design.

All true. The traditional glasspacks had a rappy kind of sound and a lot of noise when you lifted off the throttle. My Ultraflows have none of that. The only time they get rappy is at WOT and when you lift off there is no popping or other noise. I think the biggest reason for this is their location. I will reiterate that they get louder once broken in. I was a little disappointed when I first installed them. They were quieter than my stock mufflers at idle and didn't sound like much unless you were 3/4 into the throttle. Now, after about 1000 miles or so they sound like I thought they should at the beginning. The thing I like most about mine is the polished stainless shell which I know will last until I either get tired of them or I switch to driving a cloud.
BORLA ALL THE WAY!!!! Don't get me wrong dyno max isn't a bad system but borla definately has a better product than dyno max. I can't tell u what to get so ur going to have to decide for urself. Let me know what ur going to do in the end.
One thing to mention about the UltrFlo is the use of fiberglass roving in the "can" as the sound absorber. The roving will burn out over time and the muffler will get louder as it does so.
Magnaflow uses rock wool instead of fibergalss. It's supposed to be immune to blow-out or burning.
I have Borla's on mine ... good mufflers but they were a little loud for me. I ended up adding an X-pipe and some Car Chemistry inserts to tone down the exhaust a bit. Good sounding, they just had an annoying resonance about 40mph.
I'm about to purchase new mufflers (my FlowMasters rusted out after 3 years!!!).
Just read that again.... the mufflers are probably perfectly fine. I removed a Flowmaster 80 series from my Z28 and it was unbelieveable how much junk and rust chunks came out of that thing.... it served well for many miles and the sound never changed. I'm sure the baffles inside the muffler are all still there, maybe I'm cutting it to see what's going on inside that muffler (curiousity killed the cat).......
If you're happy with the sound just shake all that stuff out and re-install your mufflers....

Uh Oh!...I just bought two flowmaster 40's, and I am about to turn 48. From everything I am reading in this thread, I should return them and go for Dynomax Super Turbo's....hmmmm decisions...I wonder if flowmaster will take them back if I put them on for a day, and don't like them and take them right off?
I have Dynomax ST's on my 71 Coupe, and they're pretty civilized with a H-Pipe.
