Wiper door problems
My '72 wiper door comes open after you start the engine and will not go shut (other than manually closing it after you shut off the car).
The wipers work, and the manual override valve below the drivers side dash is closed. I have even taken the wiper switch out of the circuit by unplugging it. Today I (and i don't know which side goes where), I reversed the two vacuum lines that attach to the wiper door solonoid on the back of the tach.
My understanding of the circuit is that when the wiper switch is "on", it energizes the relay on the back of the tach and lets vacuum to the actuator? Or vacuum to the actuator by using the bypass valve under the dash. The solonoid on the back of the tach is a 3 wire plug (I think) and one side of the solonoid has two nipples and the other side has one. I assumed that the spare nipple has nothing attached and that is the bleed off allowing the wiper door to close? I will say the vacuum is low to the actuator as the door only partially opens and not with much authority.
My next step is (I suppose) to disconnect the plug from the solonoid on the back of the tach to see if it still opens. If it does, I have eliminated the electrical components of the circuit, right? I suppose it is possible that the solonoid is stuck on? or the plug to it is on backward? Why is it a 3 prong flat plug? is it not just an on off or is there something still that I am missing? And if it still opens without the solonoid engaging, then it has to just be a vacuum issue somewhere?
All thoughts appreciated...my head is sore from beating it uselessly against the firewall
And of course all of this stuff is really hard to "get at"...
