Default t-top chrome trim

My 74 is about to be painted. Can the chrome trim be removed with out damage or bending it all up?

I just took it off my 77 to fix a leak. You have to take off the windshiled trim first. Also on my car the back two mounts are pop rivited in so you have to drill them out. You will need new weather stip and sealer to get it back on without causing a leak between the T-top chrome trim piece and the birdcage. Go really slow! Personally I would just tape it off.

you just have to drill out 4 rivets. Then it come off easy.

After you grind the rivets to remove the trim, how do you secure the trim on re-installation? I think this is a problem and why so many just tape it off and paint with it in place.

Just drill out the rivet (DO Not grind them off as you will destroy the trim) and rivet them back on. It's a corvette not the space shuttle.

I just did this on my 71 and sent them in to Scenic perfection bumper and chrome to be re-chromed. If you want me to come over and give you some help, I'd be more than happy to.. I'm in Baton Rouge. Check your pm's

The rivets on my 77 were 1/8 diameter and you need the 1/2 grab range type to replace them. Run a 1/8 drill right down the center of the old one and the head should pop off. Then use a punch and drive the rest down to clear the hole. If you do not know how to use a pop rivet gun to re-install the trim this job might be a little beyond your mechanical ablility but I'm sure anyone at your local hardware store can show you.

the trim around the outside of the top can be removed with a paint stiring stick and a hammer go slow I don't think you can buy that trim . My body man asked me to do it myself so it would be on me if it got screwed up
