Default Tires

Hi All,

I am replacing the tires on my '77 as I picked up a key on the road that put a 1 inch hole in my rear tire. The tires that were on the car when I bought it were Bridgestone Potenza 225 70 R15. Of course, Firestone doesn't make these tires anymore so I need to replace all four.

I was planning on replacing them with a set of Goodyear GT II RWL. However, while at Carlisle this past weekend I couldn't help noticing the popularity of the BF Goodrich Radial T/A's.

Any input on this? Which tires are better? Any other ideas?

Thanks for any help. By the way, first time at Carlisle for me, WOW WHAT A SHOW!!!

I just put a set of BFG radial T/A s on my 68. I went with 225/70. I also got the H rated tire. Available in blackwall only, but I like it. I think the RWL tire is S rated (This may vary by tire size) so it is less expensive, but not as good as the H rated tire. Also, the H rated tires qualify for the free Gtech promo !! while the S rated tire does not. Free Gtech only until the end of August, so hurry!! MJ

I've got Goodyear Eagle GT II on my car. I'm not too impressed. Hard as a rock in the sidewall, little grip and darn expensive for the above. Look elsewhere in my opinion.

I'm just about to order a set of tyres & have a choice of BF Goodrich or Goodyear. Which are the best for holding the road etc?

I have 255 60 R 15 BFG TA Radials both front and rear. I'm generally satisried with them. There is slight rubbing in the front but it has no effect on handeling or longivity.

I recently replaced my Goodyear Eagles (255 60 15) with Dunlop GT Qualifiers (same size RWL). Look good, nice ride, excellent handling. My research put them above the BFGs and I'm not disappointed.

My brother (70 454) and I (71 LT-1) just put BF T/A's on our cars. What a difference in ride quality and handling. The size we used was 245 60's. These do not rub on hard turns (the 255 60's rubbed slightly). Your car may have more room, in which case I would go with the 255's. They look great, drive great, and are a far better value than the harder riding and more expensive goodyears. Put the white letters on the outside. We paid about $70/tire, complete.
