what causes high oil pressure? my friend is having problems with high oil pressure in his fuel injected dodge stealth. Does anyone know what could cause this to happen?
if your judging by what the gauge says then there might not be a problem. most of the time it is the sending unit or the gauge that is bad and it will read high on the gauge. usually the sending unit is relatively cheap, thats where i would start. had the same problem with my 78.

I will agree that the most likely source of the high oil pressure is a bad pressure switch. I have also seen the pressure relief valve get stuck in the oil pumps. The usual sign of a stuck relief valve is that the oil filter ruptures or the gasket on the filter blows out.
Mine also stays pegged except for after a long run on the highway. Then it might drop down to 60 psi, but as mentioned before, it's the stock guage, so it could be off some.

Those motors are BAD about sludging up ... particularly if o&f schedule more than every 3K. I agree 100% it may be a bad op sender or gage ... have true op checked by using a KNOWN good mechanical op gage.
If gage/sender OK ... then either sell it FAST or prepare for imminent motor failure. Those cars don't bring much $ around here ... I sure wouldn't wanna be stuck with one that needed a motor. One of my best buds has a loaded & pricey 94 stealth he bought new ... I could not convince him to buy a vette ... when he purchased, he could've had a new C4 for just a thousand or 2 more.

Are you running the correct weight oil in it. Most new cars are now
running 5w30 or 5w? in them. Check the manual.
his car is a 97 he bought it used and the guy before him didn't really take care of the car too much. If it is sludge build up what would be the best thing to do to get it out? Any products of some sort i could tell him to use?
obviously, the problem is with the choice of vehicle (Dodge Stealth). The solution is to replace the vehicle surrounding the oil pressure gage, and the faulty oil pressure gage with a Corvette of whatever financial means available after disposal of the non-Corvette. problem solved.
