Default Help me with my differential

Hi folks,

I have 1979 Corvette L-82, 4-speed manual transmision and I have a problem with the differential. I have changed an oil in the differential, I used 85-90W GL5 and I also added 1 bottle (114 ml, 4 fl. oz) of ACDelco Limited Slip Differential Lubricant Additive.
When driving my Corvette with cold differential everything is o.k. but when the differential gets warm it is noisy while turning.
Will it help if I add one more bottle of above mentioned additive? What do you advise to do?

Thank you for you answers in advance.

Is the differential new? Or has it been apart recently?

Did you shim it the same as it was? Are you sure the sound you are hearing is the clutch chattering? If something changes with the gear mesh, then you could be hearing gear noise. The noise may show up upon acceleration, cruise (no load) or deceleration.

I agree, if the unit was recently worked on then there could be other issues but usually they'llshow up right away. The heat issue sure sounds likt clutch chatter. I would change the oil and look to see if there is any metal in it and add 2 bottles(8oz) of GM additive then see how it works. If you still have a problem then I'd drop it out and open it up.

The oil was already changed after differential rebuild. First I put the oil recommended by producer with limited slip component - ESSO 85-90 W GL5 LSA (European oil). It was o.k. with cold car but after warming up it was incredibly noisy but only by turning when the clutch was working. When I emptied this oil I could see tiny bits of clutch.

Now I put there MOBIL 85-90 W GL5 and 1 bottle of ACDelco Limited Slip Differential Lubricant Additive and the differential is noisy only by turning when it gets warm. The situation is 50% better than before. By acceleration and deceleration when going straight is everything o.k.

I am from Europe, Czech republic, and here are only a few Corvettes. I have to buy even those additives from USA because here are not any.

Thanx for your advices.
