Default Changing my oil...any input?

I'm going to change the oil in my car this weekend, and I was wondering if anyone here knows whats the best synthetic oil I should use for my 76'. I was wondering if that Q advanced stuff was good? Any thoughts?

Synthetic Shell rotella T. $15 a gallon at Wal-Mart, better for flat tappet cam engines than any of the regular synthetic oils. God bless, Sensei

Default oil

changed mine in my '79 when i had 4k on new motor.....used mobil 1.... no problems, seems to run a little quieter and smoother....some guys have said they developed leaks after switching to synthetic oil, but no leaks yet.....i'm sure you will get many opinions about what's best..... jim....

any 5/30 fully syntetic, change oil and filter every 2.000 miles and your motor will perform and last forever

That's from a snake oil salesperson. Don't expect any changes.

LOL...

I'm not sold that synth oil adds ANY value to vintage engines. I use Mobile1 in my 05Caddy. Thats what was in it from the factory and is recommended.

In my 73Vette, good old standard Penzoil or Valvoline 10w-30 (10w-40 in summer).
Change it every 2k miles and your motor will perform and last forever.
..oh yeah...and it's cheaper!

Maybe when/if I have a brand new fangled SBC w/ rollers, I might think about synth

I've got a 04 C5 I bought new it came with Mobile 1, and I change the oil with Mobile 1, that is what GM recommends, I've got a 78 C3 that I put regular 10W 40 in. I don't believe in putting in Synthetic oil in high milage cars it can leak and I don't believe that it will pay for itself in a high milage car. I also don't believe in changing my oil every 2000 or 3000, (why not just change it after every drive) I change the oil at the milage that the company that warranties my engine recommends, which on my Dodge pickup is every 7,000 and on my C5 Corvette it say change when the computer tell's you to change it, or at a minimum evey year. I'm 55 years old I drive approximately 30,000 miles a year, I've followed this policy for almost 40 years now and I've never had an engine fail.

I would only use synthetic if you drove 5K+ a year. If you drive 3-4K per year and change the oil when you take it off the road for the winter regular oil will be fine. Synthetic would be a waste of money. In 5K miles regular oil still has a lot of life left in it and your engine will have little or no wear when you change it.

i personally think that the oil for a motor is like the food for a human beeing, take a guy who has been eating junk food along his life and he'll develop all kind of unpleasant phisical problems...instead take somebody who has been eating healthy food and he'll last longer and healthier. For my new 406ci engine (which is a relatively low compression race motor) i've changed 3 times a fully mineral castrol oil for the first 1.000 miles, then i've started with a fully sintetic 5/30 which i regularly change (with the filter) every 2.000 miles, well then engine now is close to 10.000 miles, has taken quite a lot stress (specially saturday nights ) and i've never had a problem, runs over the silk and thunders like a beast...

On the same token if you have someone who has been eating junk food all his life and start to make him eat healthy he will also develop all kinds of physical problems and start to get sick because of the change lol.

I would stick with what the motor has had in it all its life. If its synthetic use synthetic, if its regular I would use regular. If you rebuild the motor and want to start using synthetic that is what I would do also.

I run Amsoil in my Silverado. 25k between changes & the oil is not degraded. After the Vette's new engine is broke in it will also get the Amsoil. Dual filters & oil analysis = 100K. They don't change turbine oil except at overhaul time.

Get the shell rotella diesel oil....any wt. you wish...about $10 a gallon almost everywhere. Change it and filter every 2k miles and forget the synthetic hype. Don't use a cheap filter. If you hotrod, change every 1000 miles.
Just as important is use a good AIR filter and keep it clean too.

The CI-4 diesel oil is the best for the older motors. The newer synthetic oil is a waste of money on our older motors and is NOT as good for them.
The CI-4 oil is actually better simply because of the additives that are in it compared to the more modern oils.

They don't call it Liquid Gold for nothing.
