Default steering wheel question

hey guys,
I had a "corvette" interior shop install a whole new interior for my '78. my problem is the new steering wheel, it is off to the right. the shop guy said it probably needs an alignment, but one has been done already. the worst part is the old steering wheel was not like this when i sent it in. i want to fix this myself because obviously he doesnt know what the deal is. i was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction to start.....

You would need a steering wheel puller kit. You need to take off the hub and move it by one notch. Its tough to tell alot of the time if you have it right on. I have had both my 76 vette and 84 TA installed with a new momo wheel and both time I was off my one notch. I expected this so I would put it on and then drive around the block and make sure it was perfectly straight. Both times I was off but only by one little notch. Had to pull off the hub to do it - so if you don't have the tools...it may be tough.

Nope, not any harder really. Just make sure that you don't lose any pieces as you are taking off the wheel. Just move it over one notch and take it out for a spin and make sure its ok.

thanks for the info guys. i would take it back and have them redo it but i have taken my car back 4 times for other crap to get fixed and frankly i am not impressed with how the process has gone. i have learned my lesson though, do it yourself and it will get done how you want it. expensive mistake though, but i will be doing this interior stuff on my '85 myself

Mine is a C2 but the basic principle is the same. You can see the notch mark in the steering column in the pic. There is a punch mark in the steering wheel that lines up with that. If that does not correct the problem then you need adjustments to the tie rods. I do not recommend going a couple of notches off on the steering wheel/column to correct the problem. That may affect the self-cancelling function of your turn signal assembly.

A steering wheel puller can be rented at a modest cost from many auto parts stores.

You might as well buy a puller. I found one on ebay for $11 brand new included shipping.
