Default Headlight vacumcanister

Hello ! I drive a -82 CE
Why does the rubber cover in front of the stearingside headlight vacum canisters get sucked down to almost nothing and leave the headlight down ? I hear a cleare wispering sound of air around it and when I put my finger on it, at a spot that I supose is a hole in the rubber, then the headlight raises normaly. But the rubber remains sucked in almost wanting to disapear backwords into the canister. I have had a mecanic change the rubbercover but the same problem apeared after a few months. The passanger side headlight is working fine and that cover is normal and in normal shape and normal preasure with air in it and no wispering. What is the problem ? The rubbercover alone or something else ? Can someone please explain how this works so I perhaps can have the chance of saving some dear money
Thanks a million for any answer !

Are you talking about the vacuum actuator in front of the headlight that you can see when the hood is up? If so, you may consider installing a new actuator rather than replacing the rubber boot.

There are lots of headlight/vacuum articles at www.corvettefaq.com

Thanks ! Yes the rubber boot is located in front of the vacuum actuator protecting the arm pushing up the headlight. Why should this leak on the rubber boot indicate need of replacing the actuator ?
Thanks for the adress ! I´m sorry but I couldn´t find any article describing the actuators function in small detail !

I believe Ecklers sells a repair kit ... comes with a couple of boots and seals to fix your issue. Did mine years ago, and it fixed them without having to replace the whole things.
