I've got the Hot Rod Air brackets and Sanden compresser installed. I've got my new accumulator and orfice tube and all new orings so I'm ready to button this project up.
My problem is custom hoses. Since I'm using the stock evaporator and condenser I need an odd ball combination on the low side. I need a 90* -10 with low side charge port at the compressor and a straight -12 at the accululator - both on -10 hose.
I work for Aeroquip so I thought it would be a piece of cake. Wrong! We don't have those fittings. I'm looking for ideas from guys that have done this conversion.
I went to a local a/c shop,, who fabs their own hoses, carries the vast majority of fittings necessary in stock.....you need find a competant local who actually knows WTF they are doing....cost me about 100 bux total last time around, hell most places the damn fittings alone cost that damn near after all the screwing around....
this was suction and discharge....r134 hoses, all crimped and happy...I have a factory stock serp drive from a '98 vette, in my '72 here, and so they recommended for flex/vibration issues the hoses took a differant route than the most direct shot, and sure enough, given the lack of flex in a 134 hose, duw to plastic barrier liners....he was right....
Thanks Zwede for the suggestion. I found everything I need on Ray's web site. I hope to get it all measured and ordered this week. I do have both -8 and -10 hoses--I was just having a tough time with the -10. I'll order both from Ray's. I think I'll replace the -6 hard line as well with a hose to clean things up a bit.
You can get hoses & fittings from O'Reilly. Either #12 or #10 can be used on the low side w/ correct fittings.
I replaced the R4 with a ND 6P (similiar to Sanden 508) which uses less HP. Note how the A/C lines go off to the side & then straight forward & back. http://ganeys.home.sprynet.com/77ACs.JPG
