Default fuel pump changing question

my fuel pump is gone.

when I disconnect my lines, i get a good bit of gas from siphoning effect.

what is the best/easiest way to prevent this while changing the pump?

I try to keep an assortment of plugs just for this sort of repair. You should be able to pick one up at a local auto store.

I have pushed an appropriate size bolt into the hose for the few minutes that the line is off of the pump.

what about changing the hoses. cap with vacuum caps?

I thought about blowing through with compressed air to clear the lines of fuel.

there is a runbber hose at the tank coming from the sending unit, clamp down there and your are good to go.

I have a set of vice grips that have flat surfaces designed for just this ( onther seldom use tool in tthe box) but it workes perfect in this situation

I don't believe it's a siphoning effect. I believe it's just gravity flow because the tank is higher than the pump. Take a scrap gas hose and put a bolt in the end. When you pull off your fuel line, install this hose and you won't lose much fuel.

I have these yellow PLASTIC locking clamps. They look like pliers but are plastic and have a locking ring on the handles.
They are made specificly for clamping rubber hoses as the plastic won't cut into or damage the rubber hose.
I clamp off both fuel hoses before disconnecting them from the fuel pump anything i'm doing work in that area and it saves fuel from draining out of the lines.

I got mine from the local NAPA store. They came in a set of three of varying sizes. I can't remember the cost but they were very inexpensive - maybe $10-$15 for the set?

you can see these clamps in many of the pictures on this page of my website from when I was working on my '78.
