Default vibration when on the gas

this just started today, i took off down the highway and when i get up above 1500 rpms there is a vibration, but as soon as i let off the gas it smooths out, doesnt do it just putting around the side streets, just as i get over 50 mph. thought it might be a exhaust leak but doesnt sound like one and outside the car i cant hear a leak. when it cools down im going to check the springs and weights in the distributor to make sure my timing is advancing.

any other ideas?

Broken motor/transmission mount?
I've had vibration due to wheel weights coming off. The last time it happened on a DD the car would vibrate horribly at about 70mph, with the entire dash leaping up & down. At 80mph it smoothed out again?! At 70mph it also smoothed out if I let off on the throttle. I'm guessing that the slight weight transfer of letting off stopped it?
Wheel bearing? My current DD vibrated at any speed above 30mph if I let off on the throttle. It was due to a front wheel bearing being slightly loose & allowing the wheel to "flap" about. Why it only did it on deceleration is beyond me. I've given up trying to work these things out, I just fix them & put it down to using old wrecks for DD's
Incorrect tire pressures?

Sounds like a classic case for a worn out U joint to me. When under power the vib would be more pronounced...when you let off the gas you probably wont feel it...until it gets really bad.

havent found it yet but it is definatly a motor issue. getting on the gas its lacking power. seems like a vacuum leak but it idles perfect in park or in gear and up to 1500 rpms. i have found the last couple of times ive driven it (to see if i fixed it) im getting a little puddle of oil on the intake manifold about the #4 spark plug. could a intake leak be causing all of my headaches? also going to check spark plugs this afternoon when i get home. i did check the carb gasket between the intake and the carb but doesnt seem to have a issue.

Like Bankok said. The engine is missing.
Check the plugs, plug wires, rotor and cap real carefully.
The plug wire is the most likely.

checked all the plugs last night and they looked good. i replaced a couple of vacuum hoses and put some hose clamps on some others just cause they seemed a little loose. will take it for a drive this afternoon. if that didnt fix it then ill check the cap and rotor.
