Default Wiper Door speed

Replaced my wiper vac switch on my '71 but now it closes way too fast. Anybody know how to slow it down?

what do you mean "closes too fast"? is it closing on your wipers? if so you need to replace the switch the wiper rests on when its parked. This switch gets pushed down, allowing the door to close.

You can put an orifice (plug with a small hole in it) into the vacuum line (it can be compeletly inside the hose so it cannot be seen) on the side of the actuator that closes the door.

This only slows it down, you should still have all of your interlocks working so you cannot crash your wiper arms.

See, that's the thing. It was the control switch that I replaced so now the passenger wiper arm pushes against it as it comes to rest which then allows the wiper door to shut, right?

What happens, though, is the wiper door now closes quickly. Each time I tried it would slap down and catch the passenger wiper before it settles down into its resting spot. Driver's side makes it all the way down, by the way. The whole thing gets clamped against the windshield. Frightful.

I've looked through some of the archived stuff trying to find something I thought I read a while back. I think it has something to do with a bolt or screw mounted up on or near the firewall somewhere that would let you adjust either when or how fast the wiper door closes.

so what you need to do is ajdust your wipers? could you switch the linkage, so the driver side wiper goes down 1st? wouldn't that just be removing the bolt on the wiper motor, pulling off the linkage, move it 180 degrees, then putting the bolt back on?

This is just me trying to apply some logic. smarter people on this forum need to chime in.

There's no speed adjustment (other than the cam increase as was suggested by 70 LS1 ). However, even though the door shuts rapidly, it shouldn't hit the wipers. Mine shuts in less than a second, I'd guess. I hit the switch, there is a hiss, wipers move to down position, then bam! the door shuts...

The door doesn't shut until the wipers are all the way down. There has to be an adjustment on the limit switch somewhere...

The vacuum interlock valve that is activated when the wiper arms park has slotted holes. The two bolts that hold it need to be loosened and the valve moved down, as far as possible away from the arm. If you go too far the door will not close at all.

Default Thanks

Thanks all. I'll try moving the switch this weekend. What's got me annoyed is that I fix one problem and another pops up. It's okay though. Great hobby!
