I asked a question a while back about PPG paints and the 72-Bryar Blue color for my car.
Previously the guy at the paint store said PPG only makes Lacquer and Enamel in my color. Well I was in the store buying the $650 in primers and supplies and we looked it up again and PPG has a B/C std color that says bluer. I was told this is not an exact match but is very close just a little bluer?
He said I could go with this color or buy a quart of Lacquer and they could color match to this.
What would be the best? go with the prematched bluer or get a color match from the Lacquers color its only $40 for a quart?
Do you think they would get the color match any closer matching from the Lacquer? I'm already set on PPG paints, well because I bought the primers and the friend doing the painting has an in with this dealer.
I took my car down to the PPG dealer and they used a device to scan and match the color ON the car. Color matched really well, but is slightly different because it is BC/CC.
72-LT2...... Stich with a PPG urethane base/clear combination, and like was said earlier, these places should be able to make just about anything. The clear will make it a tad darker, so, you might see if they will mix a sample on a spray card with some clear applied.
Be prepared though for the price difference. If you've never gotten into the Urethanes (from old-school laquer) its much more costly to purchase due to the hardeners required.
I also believe you can head out to PPG's site (Automotive Refinishing section I think), and they have nice data sheets on the total prep required. (if you are gonna do this yourself)
Why don't you have the store mix a 1/2 pint of the basecoat and do a spray out and clear it. You then can decide if you like the color or have them leave out some of the dominant blue tint to match the color you want. If they custom match it make sure they document the formula in case you ever need more paint.
Thats the problem with matching the color, its a gone from the car. So I guess like the store said I can get a qt can of the laq and have him match that in B/C.
Maybe like spray454 said, they are saying the B/C match for this color is just a little darker, thus calling it bluer. He showed me on the computer, the description says that the color is bluer.
I just don't understand why its not a correct match to the color.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I'd go with matching the original from the lacquer for and exrta $40 it's not a deal breaker.
