Stereo installation question and new ignition switch question?
Just put in my new alpine stereo in my '68 and it is fine except that it stays on even when the key is off/out? The stereo has 2 leads, 1 that says battery lead and one that says ignition lead. I ran the battery lead directly to the battery and the ignition to a yellow wire which was hooked up to the ignition lead on the old stereo(aftermarket as well). When I put the tester on the yellow it has power all the time. Does anyone know which wire to use to go the the ignition lead?
Also while I was at it I replaced the ignition cylinder because the old one was worn and the key would come out all the time. After I put the new one in the key warning buzzer comes on with the door open even when the key is in. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance
James

in most stereos, the ignition wire will be red, the batt wire will be yellow
mine was modded already when i got my car, so i just ran a wire from the red wire on the deck to the fuse box, i found one that works when i wanted it to, i know its a bubba fix, but it does work, you might can try this if nothing else works

Go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Suspension and Steering. There is a paper on Key Buzzer Diagnosis. That should assist you in determining exactly what the problem is.

James,
did you mean even when the key is "not" in? It is supposed to buzz to remind you that your key is in the ignition switch.

You may want to connect your "ignition" wire from your new stereo to a "acc" lead on your fuse box under the dash. The "acc" fuse is usually "switched" meaning it only has juice when the ignition key is "on". Works like that in mine. :yesnod:
